In the late 1970s, at a time when steel frames were prevalent, Vitus collaborated with French aerospace giant TVT to produce lighter, more advanced aluminum frames using their specially designed "Duralinox" alloy. During the 1980s, Vitus frames gained renown for their remarkable weight reduction, with certain models weighing less than 8 kg. Presently, Vitus continues to independently distribute their frames, showcasing their iconic color anodized tubes bonded into aluminum lugs.

In the 1980s, Vitus was ahead of the game, using carbon fiber in their bicycles, thanks to a collaboration with French aircraft manufacturers. A well-known representative for the brand was Sean Kelly, who had many successes with Vitus bikes.

The Vitus Ovoid Comp 992 frame was launched in 1992 (the "992" refers to this) and was an upgraded iteration of the highly successful Vitus 979, which was famously used by Sean Kelly in his many victories.
