Steel Road Frames from Columbus, Reynolds, Vitus, Oria and Tange
──────────────
At Goldensteelcycles we offer steel road frames from the 1960s to the 1990s built with the most important tubesets of the classic era. Our selection includes Columbus SL, SLX, SP, TSX, Max and Gilco; Reynolds 531, 631, 653 and 753; as well as lighter constructions from Vitus (971, 980), Oria (GM0, KK), and Tange Champion. These tubesets defined professional road cycling for decades and remain the benchmark for riders who want authentic steel performance.
Classic steel frames from this period use double-butted tubing with variable wall thickness to balance weight and strength. Columbus SL, SP and SLX typically feature 0.9/0.6/0.9 mm butting, while Max and TSX use ovalised, directional tubes designed to reduce torsional flex under heavy sprint load. Reynolds 531 and 753 rely on manganese-molybdenum alloys known for excellent fatigue resistance, whereas Vitus and Oria introduced thinner gauge tubes for lightweight long-distance setups. Lugged construction with silver or brass brazing ensures clean alignment and controlled heat distribution, reducing distortion at the joints. Dropouts from Campagnolo, Gipiemme or Simplex determine shifting quality and spacing, while fork rake and steerer style influence handling stability and responsiveness.
These frames are ideal for period-correct restorations, custom road builds or Eroica-ready projects. Whether you're looking for a Columbus SL race frame, a stiffer Max or SP construction, a lightweight Vitus or Oria commuter build, or a versatile Reynolds 531 all-rounder, our selection focuses on tubeset specification, technical compatibility and long-term structural reliability.
