History:

Cicli Battaglin was founded in 1981 by Giovanni Battaglin in Marostica, Northern Italy—the very same year the exceptional rider etched his name into cycling history. Within a span of just a few weeks, Battaglin achieved the legendary Grand Tour double, claiming overall victory at both the Vuelta a España and the Giro d’Italia. His immense racing experience across the most demanding mountain stages of Europe was channeled directly into the design and construction of dedicated high-performance steel frames.

From its inception, Battaglin stood out through daring technical innovation and a distinctive Italian aesthetic. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the marque supplied prominent professional teams, most notably the Carrera Jeans squad alongside icons like Stephen Roche and Roberto Visentini. Beyond superior brazing quality and advanced tube shaping, the frames earned acclaim for their spectacular, multicolored airbrush schemes and lavish chrome detailing. A handcrafted Battaglin steel racer from the nineties captures the exuberant spirit and technical progression of that golden era in Italian frame manufacture.

Description:

Dating from the 1990s, this Battaglin racer is constructed around a premium Columbus Brain tubeset of Nivacrom steel (Tubi Speciali Rinforzati), utilizing conical internal reinforcements to deliver remarkable torsional rigidity alongside responsive acceleration. The undisputed highlight is the intricate paintwork: deep metallic blue transitions seamlessly into an airbrushed spectrum of yellow, pink, and purple with a subtle glitter effect, topped by Giovanni Battaglin’s signature along the top tube. Fully chromed chainstays, dropouts, and a mirror-finish chromed steel fork impart an elegant, purposeful silhouette.

The drivetrain is geared for climbing and showcases a typical arrangement of its era: because Campagnolo developed the Racing Triple (Racing T) ensemble specifically as a climbing gear range extension without dedicated Ergopower levers or brake calipers, it was factory-matched with the top-tier Campagnolo Chorus lineup. Campagnolo Chorus Ergopower shift-brake levers and Chorus calipers handle steering and stopping, while the long-cage Campagnolo Racing Triple rear derailleur, dedicated triple front derailleur, and Racing T triple crankset tackle steep gradients with ease. The hand-built wheelset features durable Campagnolo Chorus hubs laced to silver Vuelta Stylus Corsa box-section rims, with the front wheel laced radially for enhanced aerodynamics and a clean, aggressive look. The cockpit includes a welded ITM Eclypse quill stem and ITM Super Italia Pro-2 High Tech handlebars, while an authentic black Selle Italia Flite Titanium leather saddle completes the build.

Condition:

Pre-owned. Following a comprehensive rebuild, this road bike presents in stellar mechanical and cosmetic condition. The Columbus Brain steel frame has been checked for precision alignment; it is completely straight, structurally sound, and free of cracks, dents, or distortion. The complex metallic airbrush finish and the chrome sections on the fork and rear triangle have been thoroughly cleaned, carefully brought to a high shine, and sealed with protective wax.

During the meticulous restoration in the Goldensteelcycles workshop, all mechanical assemblies were stripped down to their individual parts. Every Campagnolo drivetrain and braking component was ultrasonically cleaned, degreased, inspected for wear, freshly lubricated, and dialed in to exacting tolerances. The headset, bottom bracket, and both hub assemblies were serviced, rebuilt with fresh grease, and tuned play-free. All consumable components along with the complete cable routing were renewed during the rebuild. An authentic Italian racing machine with climbing gearing, perfectly balancing road performance and collector appeal.
