Gemini Depierre Paris - Rare 1970s Vintage Steel Road Bike - Campagnolo Super Record
History:
The Gemini brand originates from the vibrant cycling metropolis of Paris and represents exclusive, handcrafted racing machines of the 1970s. This specific specimen bears the signature of Marc Depierre, one of France's most gifted frame builders. Before Depierre opened his own famous workshop in Lyon, he was significantly involved in the production and refinement of these high-end Parisian frames. A special feature of this bike is the cooperation with his wife Joëlle: while Marc brazed the frames to a world-class level, Joëlle was considered a luminary in wheel building. The fact that the name Depierre is engraved in the seat stay lugs as well as branded on the rims underlines the couple's deep connection to this project. A Gemini from this era is a true rarity today and a monument to the French artisan tradition.
Description:
This Gemini from Paris is a prime example of a top-tier French racing bike from the 1970s. The high-quality frame made of Columbus SL tubing stands out with its classic red finish and the striking Depierre pantographs on the lugs. A technical highlight that was considered extremely advanced for its time is the internal brake cable routing through the top tube—a detail found almost exclusively on high-end custom frames in that era. Technically, only the best equipment available at the time was used: a complete first-generation Campagnolo Super Record group. The rear derailleur, with its characteristic black parallelogram plates, is the unmistakable centerpiece of this vintage velo. The cockpit consists of a Cinelli Giro d’Italia handlebar and the elegant Cinelli 1R stem with its iconic internal clamping. The bike is completed by the Super Champion Competition Medaille d’Or rims, branded for Marc and Joëlle Depierre, and the San Marco Concor Supercorsa saddle.
Condition:
Used. This extraordinary collector's item is in a condition that makes any collector's heart beat faster. The frame shines with first-class substance, showing no signs of cracks, dents, or material fatigue. At Goldensteelcycles, we have given this bike an extensive rejuvenation: it was completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, and then rebuilt with the highest precision. The mechanical components of the Campagnolo group were meticulously checked, regreased, and perfectly adjusted. To guarantee a ride like on the very first day, all wear parts were replaced with high-quality new parts, including the chain, all cables and housings, as well as a set of new Vittoria Rally tubular tires. The result is a technically flawless vintage road bike that proudly presents its history and is immediately ready for the next Eroica.
