Rossin Record – Eroica Ready Vintage Road Bike – Campagnolo Nuovo Record – 1978
History:
The Italian bicycle manufacturer Rossin was founded on September 14, 1974, in Cavenago d’Adda. The technological mind and namesake of the brand, Mario Rossin, had previously served as the chief frame builder in Ernesto Colnago’s workshop, responsible for welding and aligning professional frames. The company was established as a direct response to internal disagreements at Colnago, prompting Rossin to set up his own business alongside cycling officials and investors Vittorio Ghezzi, Alberto Inzaghi, and Domenico Garbelli. From the very beginning, the company philosophy was based on rigorous geometric standardization in professional racing. Among other innovations, Rossin introduced standardized frame jigs that allowed for identical reproduction of geometries for professional teams. In the late 1970s, the workshop equipped the Italian professional team "Scic" as well as the "Inoxpran" squad. The company’s technical development was heavily characterized by the use of specifically modified tube profiles and the in-house development of investment-cast lugs, which brought the brand rapid industrial expansion in the high-end segment.
Description:
This particular specimen from the "Record" model line dates back to 1978. The frame is constructed from Columbus SL (Super Leggera) tubesets—a double-butted chrome-molybdenum steel with a wall thickness of 0.9 mm at the ends and 0.6 mm in the center section of the main tubes. The frame geometry features a classic Italian design with a head tube and seat tube angle of around 73 to 74 degrees. As a structural hallmark of this early production phase, the shell features a smooth bottom bracket without the later, mechanically machined "R" cutout in the bridge.
The technical setup consists of a period-correct, matching Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset (Group No. 1020/A). The Nuovo Record rear derailleur (Pat. 77) is made from a die-cast aluminum alloy. The Nuovo Record crankset with a 144 mm bolt circle diameter is fitted with chainrings in a 53/45 tooth configuration. The braking system consists of Campagnolo Nuovo Record side-pull calipers (short reach) and the corresponding Campagnolo brake levers, mounted with classic, non-integrated cables. The cockpit features a contemporary Cinelli stem-and-handlebar combination. A Selle San Marco Concor Supercorsa saddle is mounted on the Campagnolo seatpost. The wheelset consists of Mavic aluminum tubular rims, which are three-cross laced onto Campagnolo Record low-flange hubs. Supple Vittoria Rally tubular tires with classic tan sidewalls complete the build.
Condition:
Used. The road bike has undergone a complete mechanical overhaul in the Goldensteelcycles workshop, where it was entirely disassembled, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, and rebuilt. The Columbus SL steel frame is structurally flawless, perfectly aligned, and completely free of cracks, dents, bends, or buckles. The blue paintwork and the matching decal set present themselves in an optically outstanding, pristine finish, and were manually treated with a protective hard wax sealant following the detailed restoration. The Campagnolo Nuovo Record shifting and braking components are in top mechanical condition and precisely adjusted. All bearing assemblies—the Campagnolo Nuovo Record bottom bracket, the headset, and the front and rear hub bearings—were disassembled, stripped of old hardened grease, repacked with fresh grease, and adjusted to run silky smooth without any play. The bicycle is ready for immediate use on classic rides or historical events such as L'Eroica.
