TVT Composite Carbon / ALU Suntour Superbe Pro Vintage Racing Bike 1990s
History:
TVT was a French manufacturer originally rooted in the aerospace and composite materials industry. Since the early 1980s, the company specialized in the production of carbon frames, making it one of the absolute pioneers in the development of modern lightweight technology. TVT utilized woven carbon tubes bonded with precision-engineered aluminum lugs—one of the first industrially successful techniques for manufacturing carbon racing frames.
TVT frames were distributed under various brands and frequently appeared in professional cycling as custom team paint jobs. Models such as the TVT 92 or TVT 56 became particularly famous, used by teams like La Vie Claire, PDM-Concorde, and Banesto. These frames were extremely light, torsionally stiff, and offered what was then a revolutionary power transfer.
Among the most famous riders who achieved their greatest successes on TVT technology are Bernard Hinault, Greg LeMond, Pedro Delgado, and Miguel Indurain. Many of their Tour de France victories were actually earned on TVT assemblies, even though the bikes were often externally labeled as Look, Peugeot, or other brands. Consequently, TVT remains one of the most important yet often underestimated players of the early carbon era in the professional peloton.
Description:
This TVT racing bike featuring carbon tubes and aluminum lugs is a prime example of the technological avant-garde of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The woven carbon tubes are characteristic of TVT and are defined by low weight, high stiffness, and very direct power transfer. In combination with the cleanly finished aluminum lugs, the result is the typically agile, light ride feel that made these frames so popular and provided significant advantages in the pro peloton.
The components consist of a complete Suntour Superbe Pro group, one of the highest-quality Japanese racing groups of that era. Ritchey Helium Aero Pro wheels, a classic Nitto stem, 3TTT Forma handlebars, and a Selle San Marco Concor Light saddle complete the package. This bike combines high-end carbon technology with precise racing equipment, representing an authentic vintage carbon racing bike from the early lightweight era.
Condition:
The bicycle is in excellent used condition following a full restoration. The frame shows no cracks, no delamination, no dents, and no deformations. The carbon tubes and aluminum lugs are in very clean, inspected condition.
During the overhaul, the entire bike was completely disassembled, all bearings were regreased, and every component was thoroughly cleaned, checked, and precisely adjusted. As a result, the TVT is technically ready to ride immediately and is ideal for enthusiasts of early carbon classics or for stylish vintage rides.
