Scapin Retro Road Bike - Rino Crono - 1980s - Eroica Ready
History:
The Scapin brand was founded in 1957 by Umberto Scapin in San Martino di Lupari, in the province of Padua. Unlike many other manufacturers that focused on mass production, Scapin remained a highly specialized manufactory for decades, becoming famous for its exceptional metalwork. Particularly in the 1980s, Scapin set benchmarks with innovative technical solutions: the workshop was a pioneer in using ultra-thin-walled tubing and developed distinctive, often pantographed lugs and integrated cable routing, which are now considered trademarks of the brand. Under the leadership of Umberto’s sons, Stefano and Marcello, the tradition of technological excellence continued, earning Scapin numerous design awards. A Scapin from this era is not a mere production-line item but the result of a design philosophy that views aesthetics and technical perfection as an inseparable unit.
Description:
This 1980s Scapin road bike is a prime example of Italian attention to detail. The frame is crafted from Columbus Zeta tubing, a cold-drawn carbon steel tubeset known for its reliability and stability. The deep red paintwork is perfectly complemented by golden accents and Scapin’s signature precision-lugged joints. A standout feature of this build is the complete Rino (Rino Boschetti) groupset, an exclusive Italian component manufacturer whose parts are often much rarer than those of its major competitors. The drivetrain is paired with Modolo Sporting brakes and levers, prized for their ergonomic design. The cockpit features 3ttt components, while classic Nisi rims complete the authentic 80s setup. A stylish classic that impresses with its rare color combination and exceptional component choice.
Condition:
Used. This Italian classic has undergone a professional full restoration at our Goldensteelcycles workshop. The structural condition of the frame is flawless, with no cracks, dents, or misalignment. All mechanical components were disassembled, cleaned by hand, and subjected to a final deep cleaning in an ultrasonic bath to remove even the smallest deposits without residue. Subsequently, all moving parts were professionally serviced, treated with fresh grease, and reassembled with perfectly adjusted bearings. The original red paintwork and golden details were carefully refurbished. Minor paint chips were delicately touched up to ensure both aesthetic consistency and the long-term preservation of the frame. Finally, the paint was protected with a high-quality hard wax sealant for a lasting shine. By replacing all relevant wear parts with high-quality components, the bike is technically as good as new and offers an immediate, authentic riding experience.
